GENERAL:

Air bubbles in coating color can cause defects in the coating layer, leading to an uneven surface. This affects the smoothness and uniformity of the paper, which is crucial for high-quality printing and finishing. Additionally, air bubbles can weaken the bond between the coating and the paper surface. Removing air ensures better adhesion of the coating, resulting in a more durable and consistent product. Overall, deaeration is essential for maintaining the quality, appearance, and performance of coated paper products.

Adpap Oy Ltd’s solution for efficient and continuous air removal is ADD Deaerator. It is a cyclone air remover and in practice it uses centrifugal force to separate air bubbles from solution.

The ADD Deaerator meets current standards, complying with the EN machinery directive and carrying the CE label. This ensures it adheres to safety, health, and environmental protection requirements.

OPERATING PRINCIPLE:

The ADD Deaerator is designed to remove air from various process liquids, primarily coating color. The separation and removal of gas bubbles are achieved through centrifugal force. This force is generated by introducing the process liquid tangentially into the cyclone, causing it to move in a circular motion. As a result, the lighter, air-containing fraction of the liquid gathers in the center of the cyclone, while the heavier, non-air-containing liquid moves towards the edge

The air-containing part of the flow is removed through a reject connection at the bottom of the cylinder, while the non-air-containing fraction (accept) is extracted from a connection slightly higher on the cyclone edge.

Depending on the flow and properties of the solution, the number of cyclones in a unit can be adjusted even during operation. Each cyclone is equipped with separation valves for this purpose. Optimal flow conditions are maintained by controlling the differential pressure across the unit, which typically results in a pressure loss of 1.3 to 2 bar.

ADD DEAERATOR CONSTRUCTION:

The ADD Deaerator is built using high-quality materials. All wetted parts are made of stainless steel, while the internal parts of the cyclones are made of polyurethane, which offers excellent resistance to mechanical wear and chemicals.

The construction of the ADD Deaerator is highly flexible. The unit consists of multiple air-removing cyclones, and the number of cyclones can vary depending on the design flow. Each cyclone can be individually switched on or off using valves, allowing for adjustments based on changes in feed flow or maintenance needs.

ADD DEAERATOR CAPACITY:

Thanks to its modular design, the ADD Deaerator can handle a wide range of air-containing flows. One unit can remove air from solutions at flow rates ranging from 100 liters per minute (l/min) to 1500 l/min. The number of cyclones in the unit is carefully adjusted based on the volume flow and the properties of the solution.

Typically, the connections for inlet, outlet, and reject are located at one end of the unit. However, these connections can be repositioned to either side of the unit to meet specific customer layout requirements.
